My Pen Pal Patty

About six months ago, a younger friend of mine told me that Patty, her Mother was having a difficult time these days. Her Mother lived out of town in a small town north of Dallas and her struggle was real.

As you know, I am a letter writer. Preparing a note and sending it is one of my most favorite things to do. I asked if I could write her mother a note. My friend was happy at the idea. That is how Patty and I became pen pals.

Patty is from Australia. Many years ago, she and her husband moved to the states with three small children to start a new life. Isn't that an amazingly brave thing to do?  Even though I have not met Patty in person, we write notes to each other often.  We share our lives on sweet cards, telling just enough without being boring.

I hope that receiving my notes and writing notes in return, distracts her from her troubles and perhaps finds a happy moment from her day to share and lift both of our spirits.

Many of the special people in my life live quite far away and I love getting real mail. But I am sorry to say, many people are busy taking care of their lives and letter writing is not part of their day during these strange times and I understand  that completely.

Getting through these gloomy. difficult days is hard enough. Who wants to think about writing a letter?

I do.

Getting paper ready, a good pen, stamps and return labels. Connecting my thoughts, handwriting, and punctuation. It is the perfect exercise for my hands and brain.

Thank you Patty. Our Pen Pal notes are just what I needed...that and a new friend.

Love you beyond the moon.
