Years ago, Larry and I were friends with the neatest couple.
We had a normal friendship, until one summer things went
downhill very fast.
When meeting them for dinner, they would bring friends and
expect Larry to pay for everyone.
One night I remember her ordering bottles of mulled wine,
made by the certain chef. She was going to give them as gifts.
Yes.
Larry paid for her gifts that year.
She would ask for my recipes, and then cook them up.
serving said food to dinner guests (not us) claiming that
she created the recipe.
(you think that she would have been sneakier about all this
than serving to shared friends......
be patient, the point to all this is coming)
She would beg Larry for names of new restaurants, so she could
take HER friends and family to dinner and impress then
with her knowledge of the "restaurant current events"
in Dallas.
They used our friendship very badly,
and after a few other episodes, Larry and I broke up with them.
*UPDATE*
Last week we saw HER at a NY Deli that I adore.
She came to our booth, fawning over us,
acting as if nothing ever happened.
Then it happened.....
the new and exciting restaurant question.
I gave Larry the signal with my eyes.
let me take this one.......
I told her about a French cafe in Dallas, it was BYOB,
Good food, yacky waiters, cozy, much like a visit to Europe.
(she was packed up,ready to eat at that cafe the same night)
I neglected to tell her that I had found 2 hairs in my dinner there.
It felt amazing at first.
I feel a little guilty now.
Just a little.
Happy Friday.
Love you.
