Today I am grateful for Rita.

Remembering Rita Leach

About 20 years ago, I met the kindest lady in an AOL Book Room Chat. The chat room was BOOKACCINO.
It was in this room where many of us became friends in real life also.
This was the case with Rita, her husband Cliff, Larry and me.

Because they lived in San Antonio, and we live outside of Dallas, often we would meet half-way (Waco) for lunch. Sometimes, while passing through town they would stop and have lunch with us. Once they brought their grandson Rolando. I remember the a wonderful visit.

Rita passed away last week. July 25th, 2024.
Another friend from the book-group called to tell me of her passing. I felt stricken.
It has taken a few days to process and today I feel sad and sentimental.
Rita was a great lady, and I will miss her very much.

Rest in Peace dear friend.
Love you beyond the moon.

I still remember the day I met you in the cafeteria of Menlo-Atherton Hight school in Atherton, CA. The computer academy matched you to be my mentor my Sophomore year. I remember you had a birthday gift for me as my birthday was just a few days away- it was a pocket calendar that I used the whole school year.

Our lunch/dinner dates at Chilly’s in Menlo Park, CA were always fun- hearing about the new book you were reading and hearing about your traveling adventures was always nice to hear.

Whenever you traveled, you would mail me a postcard, and every year I'd receive a Christmas card with the letter sharing your family’s yearly stories that were always a pleasure to read.

It was a great gift to have you and Clay as a guest at my wedding last October in Belmont, CA. I know if you were still in Texas you would have also made it to my special day.

Here I am 24 years since I graduated high school and still in touch with you. You will be missed my dear friend. Thank you for having such an impact on my life.
