The Secret Gift

I came home yesterday and there was a white box in the entry.
I put the mail on top of the box and came into the house.
Bills and junk mail.
Junk mail makes me angry...and the white box had an unknown address.
I opened the box.
(I LOVE boxes)
No note,
just a frame wrapped in bubble wrap.
Inside of the frame was an old photo of a child.
(note the child on the far left, above)
The photo, I know was my grandmother.
No name on the return address, no note.
But I know who sent this to me.
My cousin.
I ran to get my address book.
Looked up an address not often used.
Yes. My cousin.
Can you hear me take a deep breath?
A cousin I do not know, shared a photo with me.
The photo hung in my Uncle Bruce's office.
I am in awe.
What a lovely, thoughtful gift.
And,
my cousin did hot have to give me anything.
So much greed in the past years,
has numbed me to any kindness in this situation.
A secret gift.
How wonderful.
Love you beyond the last will and testament.
Me
