June 24, 2025 ~ At The Park

Photo: Larry at the park

Yesterday afternoon Larry told me that he was not hungry for what I had planned for dinner. He suggested McDonalds burgers and to take them to the park. That is exactly what we did. It was 94 degrees outside and it was a beautiful evening.
Love you beyond the moon.

A Picnic

Saturday evening, we packed up sandwiches and went to the park.
It was very windy and ate on the car.
We listened to music and watched kite fliers.

 Sunset
Photo: The view from our picnic bench by Robin

Yesterday, I made a picnic.
Larry and I took it to the park to watch the sunset.
It was amazing to be in the fresh air and just be together.
Larry I love you so much.
This journey would be nothing without you.

Love you beyond the moon.

These winter days are very short.
I find myself making a list of chores
so that I don't forget anything as I cram
everything into the day.

Last evening, wonderful Larry suggested that we pick up Jersey Mikes sandwiches for dinner and picnic at the park.
It was cold outside, and we had dinner in the car.

We had turkey sandwiches, Sun Chips and ginger ale.
Dinner was delicious.

The radio was on, we listened to....
Photo: The perfect music with dinner

Do you know this piece?
It is beautiful.
We watched the sun set as we had
dinner and listened to Handel's Concerto.

Photo: A beautiful January sunset

It was a lovely end to my day.
I read somewhere that "January is for Dreaming"...
I think that means January is for dreaming of SPRING!

Larry, thank you for arranging the picnic.
I love you beyond the moon.

Today I am grateful for a good bag of chips.

I am always thankful for picnics.

Larry and I have been sneaking away with picnic basket in hand since we met in 1973. Taking time for a picnic is the secret to finding a calm space in your day.

I have been struggling lately. The heat of the summer always makes me anxious, and this year has been worse than ever.

So, yesterday, Larry and I decided to go on a picnic.

The meal was not gourmet, just homemade turkey sandwiches and ginger ale.

Photo: The old oak tree

It was 98 degrees outside and we parked under the old oak tree.

It was beautiful outside.

Photo: The sandwiches

I made turkey sandwiches on wheat bread.

The car was cool, and we listened to music as we ate.

Larry listened to me as I talked. My day was interesting. I had yoga in the morning and heard from an old friend in the afternoon. Then I had a migraine with the strangest aura and worst pain I have ever had. Larry sat quietly listening to me. Then he told me that he loved me....and ate his sandwich. Here is a secret, Larry is a "chip" guy...a real chip guy. Did you know that there are GOOD bags of chips and bad bags of chips? Evidently yesterday, we got a good bag of chips for the picnic.

I wish you a happy day and maybe a picnic.

Love you beyond the moon.

Sunday Dinner And No Movie

Yesterday was a gloomy day again and Larry pulled out our little picnic table, grabbed assorted cheeses and crackers that were in the fridge and pantry,
and asked: do you want to go on a picnic to the arboretum with me?
Photo: Winter blooms are the arboretum

While driving into Dallas, it was raining. We decided that if the rain continued, we would picnic under the gazebo.

It was still dark and rainy as we walked to our garden.
The sculptures take on a different color in the clouds.

Larry set our little table and poured the Champagne.

I brought music, and we toasted the special people in our lives.

The gardens were empty for a Sunday afternoon.
I am sure that the rain showers chased everyone away.
It was such a lovely picnic.

And then the sun came out.
It was a perfect picnic.
Love you beyond the moon.

Journal Entry-March 8, 2023

Today's blog is my journal entry-

Yesterday started with yoga. (as all Wednesday's do) I only go once a week, but it is lovely and makes me move even when I do not want to.

It had been a bit to long since I changed linens. I changed and washed the linens...and even changed the duvet.

Changing the duvet is the BAINE of my existence. Someone needs to invent an easy way to change that thing.

I read and worked on a Christmas stocking that I am needlepointing..... and then Larry asked if I would like to go to Taco Delite for dinner. Of course I said yes.....and we took our tacos to the park.

It was cold yesterday so we ate in the car and listened tp Alexander Glazunov: Concert Waltz #1. It was a lovely picnic in the car.

Tacos on the go are always wonderful. Larry needed dessert so we finished our tacos and we went to get him ice-cream.

Larry is an ice-cream guy. He could eat it every day. I had chocolate almond and he had cherries, pecans and cream ice-cream.

This week is an anniversary of something unhappy for me. I try to carry on, and do a rather good job of it, but it is always hanging out there. Keeping busy is the best medicine....

Love you beyond the moon.

Harvest Moon

Larry is out of town today
and
I am constructing a dress that I designed.
{a mother of the bride dress}
The ironing-board is out and Ruby,
the new iron, is ready for service.

Just a quick reminder.
This Friday Sept the 16th, 2016
The full harvest moon will be in view.

I have planned a picnic at the fire pit.
{weather permitting}

Not in the mood?
Here is one of my favorite songs.
{OK, now back to my sewing machine}
Love you,
Me

Picnic Love

My Larry and I have been picnickers since the early '70's.
We would take sandwiches, potato salad
and
sit on the banks of the Mississippi River.
Larry's Mother worked at the Memphis Zoo
and
sometimes we would take picnics there.
In France we picnic.
A lot.
Why eat inside when you can be at the park enjoying the day?
One of our favorite picnics is the Walking Bridge Picnic.
Champagne, sandwiches, crisps and macaroons.
We bring our favorite Champagne flutes from home.
{Texas}
We have a favorite bakery for Macaroons.
It is about a 5 min walk from our apartment.
The owner gets a box and asks you what flavors that you would like.
As you tell her and she finds broken cookies,
she just hands them over, for you to eat broken macaroons.
It is like I died and went to macaroon heaven!
I leave that bakery FULL of Macaroons after each visit.
Today, I am planning two picnics.
{for this week!}
My heart is beating with joy.
Whether a picnic is in Philadelphia, Paris or Plano Texas,
it is a joy, if it is planned with love.

Love!
Love you.

Flutes

Last night, Larry and I went on a picnic.
The night was perfect and a CHICAGO cover band was playing.
We drank Champagne in flutes from Paris,
 ate home made goodies
 and
 talked a lot.
It was a perfect date.
I love Larry beyond the moon....

Traditions

Last week, while ignoring all copyright laws,
I stole this picture of my granddaughter Matilda
from her mother, Lauren's Face Book page.
She was having her dinner/picnic out on their lawn
before a storm came.
I remember times like this with Lauren and Jami.
This makes my heart sing.
The traditions continue.
Do you have a favorite family tradition?
Love you.

Putting The Champagne Back

I have looked forward to today for about 3 months.
Tickets were bought and a picnic planned.
You would have found us at the Dallas Arboretum at sunset.
The Journey cover band would be performing.
But, Larry has to work.
Not really work, he has a business dinner.
I feel frustrated and unhappy.

Do you need our tickets?
Email me at robin@robintolbert.com
I will  put the Champagne back
and
save it for a later time.
This rough patch cannot last forever, right?

Love you.

Sunday With Larry

A picnic had been planned all week.
A little rain was not going to ruin our day.
We had ham and cheese on wheat kaiser rolls.
baked chips and low fat pumpkin cupcakes.
Oh. And Champagne.
We packed everything up, including an umbrella, chess board
and
we went to the Dallas Arboretum.
Larry surprised me with one of my favorite wines.
Two games were played.
We each won one game.
Our view while we ate.
The cupcakes were perfection.
We snuggled after Lunch.
It was a lovely, wet, beautiful, picnic.
Sunday with Larry.
Love you.

Feb 15, 2011

Yesterday I kidnapped Larry
and took him on a Valentine Picnic.
(to the Arboretum)
The day was warm and sunny,
he was my captive.
We had a wonderful lunch.....

Larry sat in the sun
on our bench
as I strolled and took photos.

I fed this wily squirrel a potato chip.
Look at his eye,
he watched me take his photo.

My favorite picnic dessert
are brownines.
Yesterdays brownies were homemade...
from the most interesting old recipe.....
The only bad thing is,
Larry is out of town and 3/4's of the brownies
are still waiting to be eaten.
God save me.
***
I hope that your Valentines Day was perfection.
Love you.

This Years Champagne

Larry saves his coins all year long.
In October, he cashes the money in,
and
whatever the total is,
that is what he pays for
the champagne we drink on our Paris picnic.
This years Champagne was perfection.
Love you.
