“Preserving The Past Through Family Traditions”
This wall hanging is hand pieced, hand quilted, using the Mariners Compass pattern. The design is one of the earliest quilt patterns, inspired by the “Compass Rose” features on the nautical charts and maps of our ancestors. The first known quilt using the Mariners Compass design was made in 1726 in England.
This particular Mariners Compass was made in honor of my uncle, Bruce Stevenson, who passed away in March 2010. Bruce was a decorated veteran, having served in the Korean War and was a member of a Philadelphia Chapter of the Sons of the Revolution. The fabric was selected and purchased in Philadelphia with the assistance of Bruce’s widow, Sue Keller Stevenson who is a member of the Valley Forge chapter of the DAR.
During my lifetime, Bruce was a source of guidance and direction….a strong moral compass for us all and he will always be in our hearts.
During a difficult period,
a special person came into my life to help.
This quilt is in honor of him
and
the unconditional love he showed me.
I am blessed beyond the stars to have had him in my life.
Love you,
Me
