IN THE SHADOWS He only used pencil on paper. When he returns back to his work room, he will perhaps, re-sketch and then watercolor over graphite lines. I sat quietly in the shadows of Westminster Abby watching the artist. He was hidden to most sightseers by a modest hedge and a strong fence. While I was there, he did three sketches. Flipping the pages when he was finished and starting a new drawing right away. His pace was impressive but I longed to know his procedure. After an hour, I left him working at the Abby.
