A WEEK OF LOVE
"Everything about Florence, seems to be colored
with a mild violet.
Like diluted wine.

***
African violets are wonderful.
I love them all.
Particularly mine.
If I see a sad, wilted, dying one
at the market or green house,
I adopt it.
There are 8 plants in my care as I write this.
They are scattered anywhere close to
the huge patio window that faces East.
(that is my dining room)
My Grandmother
who loved plants and lived in Pittsburgh
when I was little,
had violets on the window sill
in the living room.
I was enchanted with each green leaf
and purple bloom.
I wondered why my Grandmother was so blase
about such beauty, right here, in her house?
The furry foliage and velvet petals...
My Grandmother let them be, to grow as they were meant to.
Just as she watched me grow.
Perhaps
that is why I adore the violets as I do.
They remind me
to mentor quietly
as the violets grow.
Enjoy
the lights and colors of your day.
I love you.
