Saturday September 13, 2008~Hurricane Ike Arrives

*5:30 AM-4.5 million people in Houston are without power. Ike made landfall after 2:00am this morning. North Texas is thinking about you all. (a Houston family who evacuated and is camping in a local Dallas park has heard that their house is under water)
Larry and I have made a small survival kit. Although it seems the storm is tracking east, we will keep a few things close during the time when the rain and wind start in Dallas (Plano).
The air is damp and calm in Plano. Clouds hide the moon.....
*8:05 AM- We are under a hurricane alert. High winds and flooding are predicted. Rocky & Debra, in Huntsville, TX, we send a hug. Hold tight. The storm is still rated a "2", the south is still getting pelted. In Dallas, there is a cloudy haze. Joshua ( Lauren's husband) is stuck in Oakland CA. He was to be home last night around midnight. Hope that he can make it home to Dallas-Ft Worth before the wind picks up. It is warm and sticky outside. The dogs need out before it starts raining. Channel 8 is announcing closures...and airports are included.....Hurry Home Josh.
*8:20 AM- Ike is downgraded to a category 1 hurricane as it is headed north.
*8:40AM-It is raining. The outer rings of Ike have arrived. The dogs wet and came back to the house very fast. It is flooding in Corpus Christy....Larry is keeping me distracted by asking me if I want to take my phone to France this year. Just think, I could text, send photos and email from my phone...no Internet cafe! (the keyboards at Internet cafes are always so..icky) It is a strange Saturday.
*2:30 PM- It is raining and the wind is not bad at all. I think that Plano will miss the bad parts of hurricane Ike. The movie, THE SEA INSIDE, has just finished. a Large pot of chili is in the oven, I baked layered chocolate bars. Libby and Ajax are sleeping and Larry is putting photos from Hawaii, in a book.
The house smells like chili (that is for diner tomorrow) Now I feel lazy and will cuddle in bed on this rainy day....perhaps finishing the book THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY.
A rainy Saturday afternoon. Where is the afghan and my book?
Love you. Me

Robin,
You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Mom and I have family in Texas City, we heard that they went to Austin to wait out the storm. As for us, it has been raining all week!!!
They say that it will clear out by Monday. We need sunshine soon...everyone has been so cranky!!! Keep dry.

Love ya,
Lindy
