Home Again

Today is Saturday. Late in the afternoon, and getting ready to go to dinner. I am home now. Hawaii is far away but ready for Robi next year.
This years holiday was special in many ways. Huge moments of laughter, warm moments with friends on island. Buying orchids to be sent home, the outdoor shower, swimming on "Shipwreck Beach", picnics, knitting in the living room on cool nights when the trade winds whipped through the room. Hanalei in the rain, The Tip Top Cafe after church......I could go on for a very long time. BUT I shall not torture you so.
Being home is wonderful. Libby cuddles a wee bit closer, at least for now. My own bed is perfection, Jami and Lauren stop by when ever the mood strikes them. Larry is back at work....I do not enjoy that interrupting so very much, but it is, what it is.
Often I judge things by first impressions. When we arrived at the cottage last week, it was very dark. Opening the gate, we went into the garden and then the entry. It was so dark, we used our cell phone lights to find the keyhole in the door. After entering, it was OUR cottage. but the night was so black....and we were tired. We settled in......and unpacked. Sometime in the night we woke and went to the lanai. The moon was still full and the shadows around us were artful. We stretched out on the chairs....cushions overstuffed and comfy. Larry asked, what is that? Glowing in the stream? The glow dots were turtle eyes! Glowing in the moonlight! We laughed, hoping that we did not wake our neighbors. It happened that we slept out on the patio that night. Holding close in the cool air of the trade winds......
It had been hours since we had opened the front gate in the black of night and I suppose that next year the feelings will renew themselves......but the roller coaster of first moments to making place your own......well they are perfection.
I am happy to be home. Sept 20th is Thanksgiving. I must contact guests, plan the menu, and make sure the 25 pound turkey is still in the freezer. ahhhh, home again, home again......
