 Two years ago, I started a new quilt and last week I finished piecing the top. My favorite quilt pattern is Churn Dash...so it was an easy decision on what squares I would make. All 30 of them (9") are hand pieced together and the size is queen. The title of the quilt is...The Blues.

I named the quilt "The Blues" because I was in therapy when I started piecing the top.

Just One More Quilt

 A few days ago I wrote about the new quilt that I started. It is a charming Churn Dash pattern and I am excited to make.....just one more quilt.

Yesterday Larry went with me to one of the local quilt shops that I like. I needed more fabric and who better to go with me than the almost totally colorblind man whom I adore? He picks out the best fabric because he sees value and hue, not being distracted by the emotion of color. (AND the ladies at this shop are wonderful. The shop is airy and filled with the best array of different fabrics. I love going there) 

I bought fat quarters...blues with a few white's thrown in for the background. (I already have quite a few white fabrics already)

The ladies at the shop gave Larry a Man Bag. It is the sweetest thing I have ever seen and Larry was amused too. Inside the bag was a poem.

Awesome, right?

This morning, all of my chores are finished so I am off to cut out a few churn dash blocks.

I also promise not to blog about this every day even though I am so excited about it...

Maybe Again

I learned to hand piece and hand quilt when I was pregnant with my first daughter, in 1981. The process was calming and creative beyond anything I imagined. When we moved to Texas in 1984, I worked, teaching quilting for Plano Parks and Recreation. I taught many classes for many, many years. It was a wonderful experience and teaching brought many special people into my life.

I continued quilting until 2012, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time. I honestly don't know why I stopped, it is a wonderful outlet.

After my second breast cancer diagnoses in the fall of 2019, I made 3 small lap quilts as Christmas gifts. I machine pieced them and had them  machine quilted by a wonderful lady.(I was in cancer treatment and just did not have the inclination to get them finished) I felt like I had enough. Perhaps it was because I was just tired?

Of course I continued doing other ARTistic things....quilting was not included.

Until now. 

Yesterday I hand pieced the first block to a quilt that is only in my imagination. I am inspired and excited about this quilt that seems like a watercolor-daydream to me.

Quilting was a very important part of my life...and maybe it will be again.

I have been reflecting on the quilts that I have made over the years and I wish....that I had taken more pictures.

It is so hot outside, that thinking about making a huge quilt makes me want to break out in prickly heat, as mother would call it...making 9" squares is an easier way to start a quilt in the heat of a Texas summer.
