The Catholic holiday of Candlemas is on 2 February each year.
It is a feast to commemorate the purification
of the Virgin Mary and the presentation of baby Jesus.
In France the holiday is called
la Chandeleur
Fete de la Lumiere
or
jour des crepes.
Not only do the French eat alot of crepes on Chandeleur,
but they also do a bit of fortune telling while making them.
It is tradition to hold a coin in your writing hand,
and a crepe in the other,
then flip the crepe into the air.
IF you manage to catch the crepe in the pan,
your family will be prosperous for the rest of the year.

There are many French Proverbs and sayings for Chandeleur.
Here are a few:
On Chandeleur either ends or strengthens.
On Chandeleur, the day grows by 2 hours.
Chandeleur covered in show, 40 days more of winter.
Dew on Chandeleur, winter is at its final hour.
As you might notice,
Chandeleur is much like the American
Ground Hog Day.
BUT in France you get to eat
CREPES all day long!

It is 14 degrees in Plano today.
We are experiencing what the electric company calls
"Rolling Blackouts"
Today is a perfect day to read......
wherever you are,
stay warm,
and
enjoy the day.
It is Chandeleur Day!
Love you beyond the crepes.
