It was 1:30 am when I woke. The house was dark and my head ached. Libby was sitting in the doorway of the bedroom. Her snorting (dog) voice asking to go outside. Leaning over, I heard Larry sleep-breathing, so I grabbed my robe and invited Libby to go into the garden.
I opened the patio door, and Libby scrambled out! She saw it before I did. Feasting on the boxwood plants at the patio was an armadillo. Huge and black, He ran quite fast and vanished under the deck, with Libby close at its heels. I always worry when Libby chases wildlife.
Moments later, she appeared in the cold garden, squatted and trotted back to the house. My head was throbbing now. I took Excedrin Migraine, and followed Libby back to bed.
Being wide awake, I turned on the light, making sure that Larry did not wake up. Reaching over to my bedside table, I grabbed a book. THE HELP. It is my current read and I am loving every page, every word.
Judy, a friend from my book group, posted on her Facebook: Finished, THE HELP. I had not heard the title before but if Judy read it, it needed on my list. Later that week, I saw the book and bought it, still not knowing anything about the story line.
I put my new book on the top of my reading pile.....and this week, I started it. Written by Kathryn Stockett. Look it up, read a synopsis, and pick it up. (discounted at Costco)
I am a child of the '60's. This book rings true and brings back many personal memories of Raleigh, NC in 1962-64.(the story is set in Jackson, MS) Katheryn Stockett is an author I will look for in the future.
I read for over an hour last night. Reading from 2 to 3 am is always a delight, even though you are really sorry in the morning. It is much like a reading hangover!
Have a wonderful day.
Love you.
