The Sunflowers

While in Fredricksburg last spring (2008), I bought seeds at the Wildflower Shop. My bag was filled with 4 varieties. They bloomed but were not thrilling. This spring, I decided not to replant anything in the sunflower area.
Look what decided to grow (without any prompting by me) in the side garden. There are 3 ten foot sunflowers and a handful of smaller ones, different varieties for sure. It was such a pleasant surprise to have these "Jack and the Beanstalks" growing right beside the deck.

Neighbors stop by the house and ask about the sunflowers, they are gigantic (the sunflowers, not the neighbors)...and I have promised seeds to our across the street neighbors. I am letting the plants re-seed again this year. Fingers crossed and spit into the wind, next year will yield an equally amazing crop of sunflowers. It looks like another hot day today. I better take my walk before the heat starts. Have a gigantic day..... Love you. Me
